Poor BSNL Mobile service annoys customers

ITANAGAR, Mar 29: The BSNL mobile and internet users are facing a harrowing time due to the poor service. In Capital complex, the mobile service has broken down in the last few days giving tough time to the citizens. The poor service has frustrated the mobile as well as internet users of Capital complex.
When contacted, the BSNL authorities clarified that service is being affected due to ongoing work for upgradation of the existing system. “We are upgrading the system to meet new challenges. It will take few more days to complete and hopefully after that there will not be any major problem,” said a senior BSNL official.
Allegation baseless, concocted: Taloh
ITANAGAR, Mar 29: Education Minister Tapang Taloh today termed all allegations levied against him as baseless, concocted and without an iota of truth.

ITFT college authorities clarifies

ITANAGAR, Mar 29: Reacting to the recent news about an Arunachalee student of ITFT College, Chandigarh being attacked by locals without provocation, the college authorities today termed the report as misleading. As per the version of college authorities, they had provided all the support to the victim student.
“On 23rd March around 9.30 PM victim Tanyang Tari, a student of BCA was going back to his rented accommodation at Naya Gaon after meeting his friend. Two unknown persons, asked for his mobile to call someone. When Tanyang refused to give, one of the boys snatched his mobile and ran away. Tanyang got hold of the second boy and also hit him but somehow the drunken boy managed to escape from the grip of Tanyang. In this tussle Tanyang suffered minor injuries (scratches) not serious as mentioned in the report. He was extended support from college as well as Naya Gaon authorities. An FIR was lodged at Mohali Police Station for mobile snatching,” the ITFT college authorities told this daily. Govt. urged to compensate Genung, who preferred sports over CBSE exam
ITANAGAR, Mar 29: Arunachal Olympic Association (AOA) has appealed to the State Government to compensate State’s leading archer Genung Tekseng suitably, who preferred sport over her class 12 CBSE Examination.
Genung, who won a silver and bronze medal in the recently held Asia Cup Archery championship in Bangkok, Thailand, preferred to represent the country in the event and sacrificed her board examination in the nation as well as state’s interest.
Earlier, Tekseng was given warm welcome by AOA and the officers and officials of Department of Sports and Youth Affairs at RG Stadium, Naharlagun on her return in the state capital from Bangkok.

NES condoles former Union Minister’s death
ITANAGAR, Mar 29: Nyishi Elite Society (NES) has deeply mourned the death of former Union Minster of Tribal Affairs, Paty Ripple Kyndiah at a city hospital in Shillong on March 26 after a brief illness.
A team of NES led by its General Secretary Tarh Tabin, on behalf of the Nyishi community laid wreaths and paid respects to the departed leader at his residence at Honeywood, Upper New Colony, Laitumkhrah, Shillong on Sunday.
The NES team while interacting with WK Kyndiah, son of the departed leader, and other family members recalled the contribution of late Kyndiah in replacing the derogatory nomenclature Dafla to Nyishi by facilitating passing of the Constitution Amendment Bill in both houses of the Parliament in 2008.
Kyndiah also attended the first Nyishi Day celebration in April, 2008 at Indira Gandhi Park, informed NES.
“Besides an able and seasoned politician and a social activist, he was a prolific writer with more than five books to his credit, NES said in a release.

Rijiju flags off bus services & ambulance
Tawang, Mar 29: Minister of State for Home Affairs, Kiren Rijiju, Minister UD, Tourism, Art & Culture, Pema Khandu, former Meghalaya finance minister Conrad Sangma, and Jang ADC, Dr. Dilip Kumar Chutiya flagged off two buses and ambulances at Jang outdoor stadium on Saturday.
While one bus will ply from Mukto to Tawang, the other will ply from Jang to Tawang. The bus service will significantly decrease the financial strain on the passengers as it charges Rs 50 and Rs 55 from Mukto to Tawang and Jang to Tawang respectively while earlier they had to fork out Rs 150 to cover the same destination in private transportation.

VKAJ conduct free eye screening camp
ITANAGAR, Mar 29: Vivekananda Kendra Arun Jyoti (VKAJ) in association with Lion KK Saharia Eye Hospital, a premier eye hospital of Dibrugarh, Assam, organized a free eye screening camp at Deomali Community Health Centre of Tirap district on March 27.
Dr. J Das, eye specialist, and his team screened eyes of 127 patients out of which 17 were detected with cataract. The patients, who were detected with cataract will be operated free of cost on April 7. The other patients were advised for spectacles, and free medicines were distributed amongst them.

Advanced airfield in Tawang may not be feasible
Tawang, Mar 29: An advanced airfield for military and commercial use in strategically important Tawang in Arunachal Pradesh may not be feasible due to topographic constraints and weather, a preliminary evaluation of a proposal by the government has shown.
Government had identified a place called Sogyatse in Tawang district to develop an Advanced Landing Ground (ALG) in the region which is only connected with the rest of the country through a treacherous road network.
A preliminary analysis of the project shows that the area proposed for the ALG may not be conducive because of the high altitude and topographic conditions, official sources said.
"...I am yet to get a complete technical report on the project. However other than Tawang, work on other landing grounds in Arunachal Pradesh Mechuka, Ziro Passighat, Tuting, Vijaynagar, Walong and Aalo is on in full swing. I think the maximum number of advanced landing grounds in the country are being built in Arunachal," Minister of State for Home Kiren Rijiju told PTI when asked about the report.
Tawang which borders Tibet is strategically important for India as China's People's Liberation Army had reached Tezpur in 1962 through this route.
Poor connectivity is a major problem as it takes nearly 16 hours to reach Guwahati after 600 kilometres of arduous route. Journey from Tawang, which is 448 kms away from state capital Itanagar, takes 10 hours and it takes the same time to reach Tezpur in Assam which is the closest railway station.
"If ALG in Tawang could materialise for military and civil purposes, we can give a boost to the economy here by promoting tourism in the area. This area has immense potential in tourism but people don't come here because of the long and tiring journey they have to undertake," Arunachal Pradesh Tourism Minister Pema Khandu said.

Remote Changlang village becomes safe haven of Coal & Boulder mafias

NAMTOK, Mar 29: The least heard Namtok in Changlang has turned out to be the safest haven for coal and boulder mafias.
The coal and boulder reserves in abundance in the area are being mindlessly extracted
and transported out to Assam via Margherita, which is 8 kilometres from Namtok. Dozens
of heavy trucks filled with boulders and coals ply daily to neighbouring Assam while
poor villagers under compulsion watch in fear and agony. The continuous flow of heavy
trucks is making Namtok-
Presently, four numbers of stone crusher units are illegally operating in Kuthung and Longpha villages under Namtok area, out of which two units are located just few meters from the government primary school. The uninterrupted noises caused by the stone crusher units are not only affecting the smooth conduct of the school, but children are unable to cope up with the polluted dusty atmosphere.
The Changlang district administration banned the extraction of coal but despite the executive ban the illegal business of coal extraction and supply continue unabated.
Due to the dust pollution every household has a member, old and young falling prey to tuberculosis, cancer, sinusitis, asthma and other dreaded diseases.
It is suspected that five villagers of Kuthung, Kongsa and Longpha villages under Namtok have already died of Tuberculosis and Cancer in recent months.
At least 12 villagers are presently fighting for their lives due to tuberculosis. Due to lack of medical facilities, the fate of villagers rest in the hands of unseen god.
With a population of nearly 2000 consisting of local Tangsa and Tutsa tribes, tea garden workers, Namtok, is a significant constituent of Changlang (North) Legislative Assembly Constituency and the most neglected administrative circle of Changlang district. At par with rest of the country, the villagers of Namtok area too are agriculturists and are solely dependent on the outcome of their agricultural produces. But owing to sheer ignorance, the villagers have given their wet rice cultivation fields to contractors of Assam on lease and the fields are being dug 8 to 10 meters deep to extract boulders by using heavy machineries like JCB excavators. The ignorant villagers are paid meager amount by the contractors from Assam. Due to the mindless digging, the villagers are losing their WRC fields, their only permanent source of livelihood. Since the ground water level has gone down drastically due to unabated digging, the villagers are undergoing drinking water shortages. Dirak River that flows between Tirap and Changlang districts acts as a natural boundary. But due to tedious digging and extraction of boulders the river are drying up and possibilities of eroding the village land cannot be ruled out.
Meanwhile, in a letter shot to Deputy Commissioner, Changlang, the villagers headed by GB Kuthung, Waman Tangha, Social worker/Public leader, Ringkam Longko , village elders Kamthan Tailu, Kamnan Longko and Thungnan Longko have called to initiate steps to ban the extraction of boulder and coals from Namtok circle and shift the stone crushers to other place immediately.
State to host national badminton championship
NEW DELHI, Mar 29: Arunachal Pradesh will host the Sub Junior national badminton championship from November 1 to 8 next in Itanagar. This decision was taken at the Annual General Body meeting (AGM) of the Council of the Badminton Association of India (BAI) in Delhi today.

Sense Animation can become a powerful tool to promote folklores of Arunachal

the rich folklore prevalent among the various tribes in Arunachal Pradesh, said Professor
Prakash Moorthy of Satyajit Ray Institute of Film and Television (SRIFT), Kolkata.
He was speaking in the valedictory function of the three-
Animation as a medium of entertainment and communication is comparatively nascent in the country but has the potential to become a great a medium to preserve and promote the traditional heritage of the people, said the resource person from SRIFT.
Prof. Moorthy expressed satisfaction over the performance of the 28 participants from various institutes and associations and their enthusiasm and keen involvement in the short workshop. With the coming of the Film and Television Institute in the state, people here would get better opportunities to expose themselves to the vast opportunities that animation and other courses on film and television provides, he opined. He, however, cautioned that there is no short cut to success and to acquire adequate knowledge and skill on animation, rigorous training and exposure is a must. He assured to extend all possible help in this field to the interested students of the state.
Prof. Moorthy, who has produced over 90 animation films so far, said that basic knowledge of drawing is essential for a student who can then take help of modern software technology to accomplish his learning.
He said that the short course aimed at giving a basic introduction on animation to the people as it can help broaden their ideas and inspire them to take up animation courses.
Divided into five groups, the participants were assigned with various lessons including animation film appreciation, theoretical courses and drawing and illustration.
Participants from various institutes appreciated the endeavour of SRFTI, Kolkata and IPR Department in organising the event successfully and appealed Prof. Moorthy to conduct similar programmes with longer duration in future.

ITANAGAR, Mar 29: The second day of the Itanagar Book Fair witnessed a dedicated stream of visitors and many hardcore book lovers thronged the book stalls at IG Park in spite of the scorching sun and the World Cup Final match.
Many of the publishers said they were doing a brisk business and hoped the sell would gain further momentum in the coming days. Publishers like Rajkamal Prakashan Pvt. St Claret organizes Commencement Ceremony in style
ZIRO, Mar 29: On Saturday, Saint Claret College, Ziro held a glittering Commencement Ceremony for the graduating Class of 2015, “Launching them to life,” presided by Dr. Joram Begi, former Director, Department of Higher and Technical Education, Government of Arunachal Pradesh, and witnessed by a host of guests, parents, and other Claretines.
The ceremony began with a solemn procession by the Class of 2015, clad in academic cap and sash and accompanied by the officials of the ceremony vested in academic regalia. The Principal administered the Commencement Pledge to the Class, and on whose request, Dr. Begi declared them worthy of graduation and commencement.
In his address, Dr. Begi reminded the students that character development was as important as intellectual and academic formation and invited them to walk into public life with respect and appreciation for differences and tolerance towards all.
Labeling the event as no less solemn than a varsity convocation, Dr. Begi commended the Management for organizing such memorable moments for students and setting benchmarks for other institutions to follow. Farm produce in Arunchal village rots due to lack of markets
Itanagar, Mar 29: Farmers of Dado, a tiny hamlet in Arunachal Pradesh famous for its organic farm produce, are struggling to make ends meet as they claim a major chunk of agricultural goods has been rotting due to lack of government support and market linkages.
"A portion of our produce is supplied to Itanagar and local markets but a major chunk is left for want of buyers," says village headman Dado Taro.
The local markets are not enough to sell organic products which are being cultivated without any government support and technical knowhow, he added.

Taro said the monthly income of each family in the village is only around Rs 5,000-
"If the state government introduces some income generating schemes in agriculture and horticulture sector for the village, the economic condition of the people will improve and the people can earn to about Rs three to four lakh annually through agriculture activities," he said.

"Time and again we have been asking the agriculture and horticulture departments to provide us technical knowledge besides medicine and fencing materials but in vain," he said, adding there were only six government employees in the village.
Each farmer in the village produces on an average 10 quintals of oranges and other agricultural produce annually.
"We sell our produce at the district headquarters and a small portion is sent to the state capital through middleman who buy them at meagre rates," Rajendra said.
Water scarcity is another problem that the farmers of the village face. "We have appealed to the department concerned to provide us with water supply but nothing has been done in this regard," Dado Tahar, another villager, said.
Sanjoy, who has been cultivating large cardamoms, oranges and king chillies, said the state government should provide infrastructure like fencing besides seeds, fertilisers and technical inputs to the farmers.

The seminar was held just ahead of the meeting between the National Security Adviser of this great Nation and the Chinese counterpart in New Delhi. This was a welcomed seminar, and advises and suggestions given by the learned people on this seminar may bear fruits at arriving to a logical solution in settling the border issue of the two great countries.
Lt General (Retd) R J Mukherjee says that the Chinese claims a large chunk of territory of Arunachal Pradesh, about 9000 square kilometres, most of which lies in the north of the River Brahmaputra and Lohit.
He also said that the Chinese claim is backed by historical evidences, so it is believed that the main aim of the seminar is to advise the Government at identifying the actual dispute, the sensitiveness, historical realities, folklores related to the actual boundaries. It is a welcomed initiative and I congratulate Lt General (Retd) R J Mukherjee for this initiative.
He is rightly talking of identifying actual dispute, sensitiveness, folklores and historical realities. Yes every area and its tribes have their own cultures, languages, tradition, customs and history. These are the items, we could supply to the negotiating team as a feedback, if the state Government wish to do so. For the real and correct information for these matters, elected leaders and some knowledgeable persons from border area could have been invited to this seminar because these people are the better people to know all these. Persons staying in Delhi or Itanagar may or may not know these things.
Because it may so happen that the negotiating teams may discuss sector by sector, area by area, tribe by tribe looking into historical evidences, cultural, traditional customary, folklores and language affinity. I greatly am pained to say that our state Government is inactive on this front. The policy of our government seems to be let it be so i.e “let it go as it goes; I don't know” type of policy.
The settlement of an international boundary is the job of the Central Government, but it passes through Arunachal Pradesh. Ultimately, we, Arunachalees will be the loser or gainers.
So we the people of Arunachal should be alerted to this point and the Government of Arunachal Pradesh should act upon this front promptly. The history that Chinese are talking about must be Tibetan history because present Arunachal has never been border to main land China but Tibet. Government of Arunachal should think of the following:
1. Form a committee:-
To find out Similarity or dissimilarity of cultures, traditions, customs, folklores and language.
To find any evidences that may help our cause.
If acted properly and used diligently, these documents may help our cause and also may stand against Chinese claims.
2. Demand a Representative in the negotiating team. It seems that Arunachalees have gone into a deep slumber dreaming their own benefit only and may wake up when our own brothers and sisters fall on the other side of give and take line.

This letter is in response to the story you published on 25th March on the murder of Late Dilip Thatal, a lecturer at Don Bosco College.
The editor of Arunachal Times should have published news based on research and investigation. Your news was completely one sided as you carried just the police version instead of further investigating the matter on your own. The dead body bore severe injuries but according to your news, there were no injuries.
We condemned your careless news as well as the statement of OC PS Duimukh.
We have seen severe multiple injuries all over the body. The statement of the OC and no progress in investigation including mobile CDR study reveals lack of concern by the police.
We urge the PHQ to hand over the case to SIT.
Doimukh area is an educational hub but simultaneously a murder prone cum dumping zone.
Take step to get back the glory of beautiful Doimukh.

Awareness campaign is the ultimate solution
Every year during the dry winter season Arunachal witness large number of fire incidents. Unfortunately people losses massive amount of properties and in some cases lives too. Especially the maximum numbers of fire incidents are reported from the rural areas. One of the main reasons for such high accidents would be the use of bamboo for the construction of houses in rural villages. Also most of houses are located nearby making it extremely vulnerable to the fire accident.
As the number of fire incident continues to rises, the demand for setting up of fire station is pouring in from various parts of the state. While their demand may be genuine but it is virtually impossible for the fund starved state government like ours to set up so many fire stations. Therefore government will have to look for other practical solution. There is a saying in English which goes like this “prevention is better than cure.” Therefore government of Arunachal will have to involve citizen and carry out awareness campaign in large scale. People should be educated about how to remain safe from fire and what are the preventive measures they should take. Along with the awareness campaign, government should provide fire fighting tools to the villagers. Fire service department also need to be revamped. The lack of manpower and modern equipment badly hampers the functioning of the department.
